이 단어를 자선이라고 번역하는 것은 그 뜻을 다 담지 못한다. 최근 김범수 카카오 의장과 김봉진 배민 창업자가 수조원에 달하는 재산을 사회에 기부하겠다고 선언했는데 미국은 Philanthropy를 체계적으로 연구하고 공부하고 실행한다.
록펠러 재단에는 philanthropist들이 따로 구성되어서 재단의 사업에 조언을 한다.
대한민국도 이런 노력과 준비가 필요하다. 참고로 재벌들은 재단을 만들어서 자선사업을 하는 척 하면서 자식에게 편법으로 재산을 물려주는 방편으로 삼고 있다. 이것도 시정해 나가야 한다.
